Medea - 1660

This third year project was an exercise in which I re-designed a previous project in a new time period and fixed colour scheme (both picked at random).

The project in question was the play, Medea, by Euripides.  I received the year 1660 to re-design for as well as the requirement that all of my fabrics must be neon pink, with the exception of high-vis silver trim.

My final costume had a historically inspired silhouette, made using a pattern from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion, but using modern fabrics.

The headpiece was inspired by the voluminous curled hairstyles of upper class, European women in 1660. Made from millinery wire and mesh, the structure mimics the bundles of curls which were pinned up around the face, and the silver hanging beads simulate the movement of hair.
